Prepositions Definition.

A preposition is usually a short word placed before a substantive (or a pronoun) and indicating the relation of that substantive to other parts of the sentence (mostly verbs).

( Preposition वह शब्द है जो किसी Noun या Pronoun के पहले आकर उस Noun या Pronoun का संबंध वाक्य में प्रयुक्त किसी अन्य शब्द या शब्दो से कराता हैं। )

For Example –

in, of, at, by, for, with, under, above, into, onto, upon, about, behind, beside, before, after, towards, inside, outside, below, around etc.

She sat on the chair. ( वह कुर्सी पर बैठ गई। )
There is some fruits in the fridge. ( फ्रिज में कुछ फल हैं। )
He was hiding under the roof. ( वह छत के नीचे छिप गया था। )

Types of Preposition –

1). Preposition of Time

2). Preposition of Place

3). Preposition of Direction

4). Preposition of Agent or Instrumentality

5). Preposition of Phrases

Preposition of Time (prepositions definition)-

Prepositions of Time is used to discuss time like months, days, hours, seasons and general time of the day.

( वे Prepositions जिससे Time का बोध होता हैं, उसे Prepositions of Time कहते हैं। )

For Example –

In, On, At, By, With, For, Over, Under, Of, To

I have a meeting at ( मेरी एक बैठक है |)
Many shops don’t open on ( कई दुकानें नहीं खुलीं | )
No, we went out for drinks after. ( नहीं, हम बाद में ड्रिंक्स के लिए बाहर गए। )

Preposition of Place (prepositions definition)-

Preposition of Place is used to denote the place or position of something or someone.

( वे Prepositions जो Place का बोध कराते हैं, उन्हें Prepositions of Place कहते हैं। )

at for a POINT ( एक बिंदु के लिए )
in for an ENCLOSED SPACE ( एक संलग्न स्थान के लिए )
on for a SURFACE ( सतह के लिए )

For Example –

on, in, at, by, above, below, under, beside, near, behind, between, among, against.

Do you live in India? ( क्या आप भारत में रहते हैं? )
Jupiter is in the Solar System. ( बृहस्पति सौर मंडल में है। )
The author’s- Oliver name is on the cover of the book ( लेखक का- ओलिवर नाम पुस्तक के कवर पर है।. )

Preposition of Direction-

Preposition of Direction is expressing the idea that someone or something is moving in a specific direction.

( वे Prepositions जो दिशा का बोध कराते हैं, उन्हें Prepositions of Direction कहते हैं। )

For Example –

to, into, onto

Emma went to the library. ( एम्मा लाइब्रेरी गई। )
The Black ball is bouncing onto the Red box. ( ब्लैक बॉल रेड बॉक्स पर उछल रही है)
The White ball is bouncing into the Black box. ( व्हाइट बॉल ब्लैक बॉक्स में उछल रही है। )

Preposition of Agent –

Also known as Instrumentality. Prepositions are words that link either the noun, or the pronoun with another word in the sentence so as to form a relationship between them.

(Prepositions ऐसे शब्द हैं जो या तो संज्ञा, या सर्वनाम को वाक्य में दूसरे शब्द के साथ जोड़ते हैं ताकि उनके बीच संबंध बन सके, उसे Preposition of Agent कहते हैं।)

For Example –

By, With

Harry Potter was written by K. Rowling. (हैरी पॉटर को के राउलिंग ने लिखा था।)
Her heart was filled with. (उसका दिल भर आया था)
The Odyssey was written by. (ओडिसी द्वारा लिखा गया था)

Preposition of Phrases-

A preposition is a word that expresses a relationship between a noun or a pronoun and another word in the sentence.

(एक preposition एक शब्द है जो संज्ञा या सर्वनाम और वाक्य में एक और शब्द के बीच एक संबंध को व्यक्त करता है, उसे Preposition of Phrases कहते हैं।)

For Example –

in, by, on, about, under, with, except, of, to, out of, when, where, why, up, down

He bumps his head going up and down the stairs. (वह अपने सिर को ऊपर और सीढ़ियों से नीचे उछालता है।)
We stayed at the cabin by the river. (हम नदी के किनारे केबिन में रुके थे।)
Sophia was asking about the project. (सोफिया परियोजना के बारे में पूछ रही थी|)
