Conjunctions (conjunctions with examples)
The conjunction is the part of speech used as a “joiner” for words, phrases, or clauses in a particular sentence.

(यह वह शब्द है जो बीच में आकर दो शब्दों या वाक्यों को जोड़ते हैं उसे conjunction कहते हैं।)
For Examples –
For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So (FANBOYS)
- Pizza and burgers are my favorite snacks. (पिज्जा और बर्गर मेरे पसंदीदा स्नैक्स हैं।)
- Emma did not like bananas but she loved apples. (एम्मा को केले पसंद नहीं थे लेकिन उन्हें सेब बहुत पसंद थे।)
- You may bring a main dish or a side dish to the party. (आप पार्टी में एक मुख्य व्यंजन या साइड डिश ला सकते हैं।)
There are three types of conjunctions:
- Coordinating Conjunctions
- Correlative Conjunctions
- Subordinating Conjunctions
1). Coordinating Conjunctions with examples.
Coordinating conjunctions, also called coordinators, are conjunctions that connect two or more equal items.
(coordinating conjunction वे conjunction हैं जो दो या अधिक समान वस्तुओं को जोड़ते हैं।)
For Examples-
and, but, for, nor, or, so, yet
- She plays tennis and soccer. (वह टेनिस और फुटबॉल खेलती है|)
- It is raining, so we have an umbrella. (बारिश हो रही है, इसलिए हमारे पास एक छाता है।)
- He works quickly but accurately. (वह जल्दी लेकिन सही तरीके से काम करता है|)
2). Correlative Conjunctions with examples.
Correlative Conjunctions are used in pairs. They work in pairs to coordinate two items.

(दो शब्दों के ऐसे जोड़े जो वाक्यों को जोड़ने के लिए होते हैं, वाक्य का महत्व सामान ही होता है, Correlative conjunctions कहलाता है।)
For Examples-
both…and…, either…or, not only… but also… neither…nor, not only …. But also
- My sister will begin either trade school or community college in the fall. (मेरी बहन गिरावट में या तो स्कूल या सामुदायिक कॉलेज शुरू करेगी।)
- I didn’t know that she can neither read nor. (मुझे नहीं पता था कि वह न तो पढ़ सकती है और न ही|)
- He is not only a strong student but also a gifted athlete. (वह न केवल एक मजबूत छात्र है, बल्कि एक प्रतिभाशाली एथलीट भी है।)
3).Subordinating Conjunctions
Subordinating conjunctions, also called subordinators, are conjunctions that join a dependent (or subordinating) clause to an independent (or main) clause.

(Subordinating conjunction दो ऐसे clauses को जोड़ता है जिसमें से एक दूसरे पर अर्थ व्यक्त करने के लिए निर्भर होता है|)
For Examples-
After, Although, As, Because, Before, Even if, Even though, If, In order that, Once, Provided that, Rather than, Since, So that, Than, That, Though, Unless, Until, When, Whenever, Where, Whereas, Wherever, Whether, While, Why
- After dinner, we’ll go see a movie. (रात के खाने के बाद, हम एक फिल्म देखने जाएंगे।)
- Whether or not you agree, I think it looks fine. (आप सहमत हैं या नहीं, मुझे लगता है कि यह ठीक है।)
- Until we find it, we can’t leave. (जब तक हमें यह नहीं मिल जाता, हम नहीं छोड़ सकते|)
