The Bicycle Ride
One of the friend of the author suggested that the two should go for a bicycle ride the next day. The author reached the place half an hour before his friend and was waiting for him in the garden. The author’s friend enquired about his bicycle and then gave it a shake holding its front wheel and the fork. After a while the man took out the front wheel of the cycle while the author was away for a while looking for a hammer.

The author insisted on putting on the various parts of cycle in place, but his friend wanted to check the front wheel. He unscrewed something and from somewhere around a dozen of ball bearings came out. His friend insisted that the author must collect all of them else the bicycle might not be resorted to its old condition. The author collected around 16 of them and kept them in his hat. The author’s friend now started taking off the gear-case. The author warned him not to mess up with the gear-case, but his friend said that nothing is as easier as taking off the gear-case. He took it off easily, but had a nightmare while fixing it back to its place.

His bicycle which was until now in good condition was now lying scattered divided in many parts. Author wanted to stop his friend from causing further troubles, but he admits that he is weak at hurting others. Then it was the time for the chain which he tightened to an extent that it stopped moving. He then loosened it until it became twice as loose as it was before.

Hard work to collect the parts
After applying his tricks on the cycle, author’s friend seemed to be contended and now wanted to put all the pieces back into their place. It took a lot of time and a great effort. The process revealed that his friend was inexperienced and knew nothing about repairing a bicycle. After struggling for many hours his friend was able to somehow fix the different parts of the bicycle. The author took him to his back kitchen where his friend cleaned himself and then the author sent him back to his home.

साइकिल की सवारी
लेखक के एक मित्र ने प्रस्ताव दिया कि अगले दिन वे दोनों साइकिल की सवारी करेंगे। तय समय से आधा घंटा पहले लेखक निर्धारित स्थान पर आ गए और वहीं बगीचे में एक जगह इंतजार करने लगे। लेखक के मित्र ने उनकी साइकिल के बारे में पूछा और उसके आगे वाले पहिए को जोर से हिलाया। थोड़ी देर के बाद मित्र ने उनकी साइकिल का अगला पहिया निकाल दिया और लेखक इस दौरान घर के अंदर हथौड़ा खोज रहे थे।

साइकिल का निरीक्षण तथा इसकी मरम्मत का काम
लेखक चाहते थे कि साइकिल के सारे कल-पुजें को व्यवस्थित कर दिया जाए, पर उनका मित्र साइकिल के अगले टायर का निरीक्षण करना चाहता था। मित्र ने कहीं का एक बोल्ट ढीला किया, तो पता नहीं कहाँ से ढेर सारे वॉल-बेयरिंग बाहर आ गए। मित्र ने लेखक को सुझाव दिया कि उसे सारे बेयरिंग को जमा कर लेना चाहिए, नहीं तो साइकिल को ठीक नहीं किया जा सकेगा। लेखक ने उनमें से 16 को जमा कर अपनी टोपी में रख लिया। लेखक के मित्र ने अब साइकिल का गियर-बॉक्स निकालना शुरू कर दिया। लेखक ने मित्र को चेताया भी कि वह गियर-बॉक्स से छेड़छाड़ न करे, पर उनके मित्र ने कहा कि गियर-बॉक्स खोलने से आसान काम तो और कुछ हो ही नहीं सकता। इसे उसने निकाल तो आसानी से लिया, पर उसे वापस सही जगह पर लगाना एक बुरे सपने जैसा था।

लेखक की जो साइकिल थोड़ी देर पहले तक अच्छी हालत में थी, अब वह कई भागों में बिखरी पड़ी थी। लेखक ने उसे रोकना चाहा पर उनके मित्र ने कहा कि वह किसी को यूं घायल नहीं देख सकते? इसके बाद मित्र ने साइकिल की चेन को इतना ज्यादा कस दिया था कि अब वह आगे घूम ही नहीं रही थी। इसके बाद मित्र ने चेन को इतना ढीला कर दिया कि वह पहले से दोगुना ज्यादा ढीली हो गई थी।

भागों को जमा करने का मुश्किल काम
अपनी सारी योग्यता को साइकिल पर लगा चुकने के बाद लेखक के मित्र ने तितर-बितर भागों को वापस जोड़ने का काम शुरू कर दिया था। इसमें काफी समय और काफी मेहनत लग रही थी। कार्य-प्रणाली को देखकर यह स्पष्ट हो चुका था कि उनके मित्र को साइकिल ठीक करने का कोई अनुभव नहीं था। कई घंटों की मशक्कत के बाद अंतत: लेखक के मित्र ने किसी तरह साइकिल के भागों को जोड़ने में सफलता प्राप्त कर ली। लेखक उसे घर के पिछले रसोइधर में ले गए, जहाँ पर उनके मित्र ने अपने आप को साफ किया तथा बाद में लेखक ने उसे अपने घर भेज दिया।
